Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Iredell County Deputies assigned to the Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team (ICE) conducted a traffic stop on a New Mexico registered 2020 Toyota Camry.
After speaking with the driver Clifford Nathaniel Willis III, the deputies had a canine perform a check the exterior of the vehicle. The canine gave a positive indication to the odor of controlled substance coming from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was conducted. Inside the vehicle, the deputies located three grams of marijuana along with a Glock Model 19, 9 millimetre handgun loaded with a 15 round magazine.
A criminal data system inquiry on the serial number of the pistol indicated the gun was entered as stolen from the State of Georgia.
Clifford Nathaniel Willis III was arrested on the scene and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Possession of a Concealed Weapon, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
Willis appeared before Magistrate P Tutterrow, who issued a 40,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
