[ARCHIVED] Huntersville man charged with four counts of First Degree Rape

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, June 12, 2020, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding sexual assaults which had occurred throughout the year of 2006 in Iredell County. This investigation was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Harwell with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit.

When interviewed by Sergeant Harwell, the victim said the suspect, Martin Cuevas Marquez, was an acquaintance in 2006. Detective Harwell was able to locate and interview several witnesses and gather evidence.

As a result, of the investigation into these matters, Detective Harwell was able to receive four, Felony First Degree Rape warrants against Martin Cuevas Marquez.

 After receiving the warrants, Detective Harwell learned Marquez had two outstanding warrants out of Catawba County for Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Martin Cuevas Marquez was arrested on Monday July 6, 2020. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he appeared before Magistrate T. Thompson who issued a 1,000,000.00-dollar secure bond for the First Degree Rape charges. Also issued an additional 5,000.00-dollar secure bond on the Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon charges from Catawba County
