Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, June 20, 2020, Deputy C. Little with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Salisbury Road at the intersection of Wall Street for a registration violation.
Deputy Little asked the driver, Cory Elijah Moretz, to step out of the vehicle while waiting for information on drivers, and criminal histories returned from a database search. The information returned showing Mortez’s driver’s license was in a state of revocation. The registration plate on the vehicle also came back to a Hyundai Accent; however, Moretz was driving a Honda Accord.
Deputy Little ran the Vehicle Identification Number on the vehicle, and the vehicle came back entered as stolen out from Charlotte. While interviewing Moretz about the vehicle, information came us about illegal narcotics possibly being in the vehicle. Once a canine unit arrived on scene, the dog indicated on the vehicle for the odor of an illegal narcotic.
A search of the vehicle located two plastic bags, which contained 22.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Marijuana and multiple items of drug paraphernalia were also located.
Moretz was arrested on scene, and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Possession with Intent to Sale or Deliver Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Driving While License Revoked, and Fictitious Registration Plate.
Moretz appeared before Magistrate P. Tutterrow who issued Moretz a 15,000.00 dollar secured bond for these charges.
