[ARCHIVED] Statesville man charged with breaking into building at West Iredell High School

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Thursday, June 11, 2020, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies received a report of a breaking and entering which had occurred at West Iredell High School.

When the deputies arrived, they learned several storage buildings at the softball field, practice football field, and the concession stand at the baseball field had all been broken into. During the initial investigation it was determined candy was stolen from the concession stand and an amplifier/stereo sound system was stolen from the broadcast booth above the concession stand.  The value of the reported stolen property was 250.00 dollars.

The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division to investigate further. During the investigation, detectives received information about the stolen property being at a residence on Desiree Drive in Statesville. Detectives went to the residence on Desiree Drive and interviewed the residents. Information was received about additional items had been stolen from the school.  Detectives were able to recover all of the stolen property in this case and identify a suspect, as Daniel Lawrence Brockett Jr.

Detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants on Daniel Lawrence Brockett, Jr. of 161 Woodhaven Drive Statesville for; Four Counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, Four Counts of Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Two Counts of Felony Attempted Breaking and Entering, and Misdemeanor First Degree Trespassing.

On Thursday, June 18, 2020, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were able to locate and arrest Daniel Lawrence Brockett, Jr at his residence. Daniel Brockett, Jr. was then taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was served with the arrest warrants. Brockett appeared before Magistrate D. Chambers who issued a 20,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.

Daniel Lawrence Brockett, Jr. has numerous criminal convictions of injury to property, driving while license revoked, communicating threats, assault on a female, driving while impaired, larceny of a motor vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony larceny, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, and breaking and entering. Daniel Brockett, Jr. also has charges pending in Buncombe County, NC for driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, hit and run, resisting a public officer, and fleeing to elude.

Criminal history: Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, Misdemeanor Communicating Threats, Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer, DWI Level 5, Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny, Felony Elude Arrest with more then 3 Aggravating Factors, Two Counts of Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Accessory after the Fact, DWI level 3, Misdemeanor Communicating Threats, Three Counts of Misdemeanor Injury to Trees and Crops, Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property.
