Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report of identity theft, which occurred between Friday, April 17, and Monday, April 20, 2020. The victim reported their debit card had been used without their permission with multiple attempts, and charges were made using their card.
Economic Crimes Unit Detectives were able verify the usages at various businesses and obtained evidence confirming the card was used without the permission of the owner. Detectives were also able to obtain multiple statements from witnesses at the businesses. After compiling all the evidence, detectives were able to identify the suspects as Mariah Cynthia Coley and Preston Levi Kovanda.
Mariah Cynthia Coley was located and arrested on Monday, May 4, 2020. She was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where she was served with six counts of Felony Identity Theft. Magistrate D. Chambers issued a 5,000.00 dollar secured bond for these charges.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has outstanding arrest warrants for Preston Levi Kovanda for six counts of Felony Identity Theft.
