Sheriff Darren E. Campbell stated: On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team were on Interstate 77 northbound conducting a joint cross training operation, when Deputy P. Dragowski observed a Volkswagen Jetta with an equipment violation.

Deputy Dragowski conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. He approached the driver, Richard Allen Barrett, and spoke with him. When asked about his travels, Barrett said he was traveling from Georgia to West Virginia. While speaking about the equipment violation, Barrett admitted he was on Parole in Georgia, and was not supposed to be out of the state.

Richard Allen Barrett was taken into custody, and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession, and Felony Possession of Methamphetamine by Transport. He appeared before Magistrate R. Imes who issued a 500,000.00 dollars secured bond.

Deputies’ notified Georgia Probation and Parole about Barrett being out of state as well as his new felony charges. Georgia Parole officials are working to secure a Parole Warrant on Barrett.
