[ARCHIVED] Mt. Airy man charged with trafficking cocaine and other drug crimes.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, April 3, 2020 deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on a 2018 Dodge Challenger travelling South on Interstate 77 in northern Iredell County.

The deputies met with, and spoke to the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Daniel Carlos McNeil. The deputies spoke with him briefly advising him why he was being stopped.

A narcotics detection canine was requested by the deputies to respond to the stop.  The canine gave a positive indication to the odor of a controlled substance inside of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle was conducted. The deputies located a duffel bag in the trunk of the car, which hid a large plastic container. Inside the plastic container, the deputies located 248 grams of Cocaine in a vacuum-sealed bag, as well as 163 grams of Marijuana in another separate vacuum-sealed bag. 5000.00 dollars wrapped in rubber bands was also located in the vehicle.

Daniel Carlos McNeil II, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Trafficking by Possession of Cocaine, Felony Trafficking by Transport of Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.

McNeil appeared before Magistrate D. Chambers who issued him a 300,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges.

Criminal history: Four Counts of Felony Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Four Counts of Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Two Counts of Felony Conspiracy to Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Seven  Counts of Misdemeanor Resist a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Assault on a Governmental Official, Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, Speeding to Elude Arrest, Reckless Driving to Endanger, Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering, Misdemeanor Larceny, Misdemeanor Harassing Phone Calls, Misdemeanor Communicating Threats, Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property, Misdemeanor Worthless Check, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Assault.
