Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 6:00 pm, Deputy Justin Parks with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to 933 Tomlin Mill Road in reference to a breaking and entering of, and larceny from of a motor vehicle.
Deputy Parks spoke to the vehicle owner, and received information on the items stolen from the vehicle which included several credit cards.
Earlier in the day, a call had been received from the same business about a suspicious person. When deputies arrived they located and identified the suspicious man as Wayne Donta Harper.
During the course of the investigation, Deputy Parks determined there was surveillance video of the crime scene. While reviewing video footage, the suspect was seen breaking into the vehicle.
After reviewing the footage, the suspect was the same person identified as Harper from earlier in the day.
Additional information came to the deputies about one of the stolen credit cards being used at the Love’s Truck Stop in Statesville.
Deputy Parks followed up on this lead, and was able to locate Harper at the truck stop. Harper was detained, and questioned about the incident. Harper admitted to taking the wallet and returned it to the deputies.
The suspect was then arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering.
Magistrate P. Tutterrow issued a 15,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
