[ARCHIVED] Suspect charged in connection with setting a fire in Stony Point

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, February 6, 2020 at 3:49 am, Iredell County Emergency Communications received a call in reference to a structure fire at 449 Abner Road in Stony Point.

Once the fire was extinguished, the Iredell County Fire Marshall’s Office conducted an investigation to determine the origin of the fire. The Fire Marshall’s Office quickly determined the fire was set intentionally, and requested the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office to respond to the scene.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detectives determined the residence has been unoccupied for some time. Detectives notified the owner of the property, who lives in Charlotte, about the situation. They verified with the property owner no one should have been inside the home or on the property.

During the course of the investigation, detectives gathered evidence, which identified James Adam Woodside of 520 Abner Road in Stony Point as the person who intentionally started the fire.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detectives obtained arrest warrants on Woodside for Felony Burning and Misdemeanor Larceny.

James Adam Woodside was arrested on Wednesday, February 7, 2020. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Burning of Certain Buildings, and Misdemeanor Larceny. Magistrate M. Nethken issued a 100,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges. Magistrate P. Tutterrow issued a 2,500.00 dollar secured bond on the Breaking and Entering charge.

Criminal history: Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, 2 Counts of Reckless Driving to Endanger, Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering, 2 Counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, 8 Counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, DWI Level 3, Misdemeanor False Report to Law Enforcement , Misdemeanor Misuse of 911, 2 Counts of Felony First Degree Burglary.
