Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, December 27, 2019 Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call for shots fired 1014 Mount Ulla Highway in Mooresville.
While responding to the scene the deputies received additional information the suspect who had fired the shot was, John Dexter Wines, and he had driven away from the scene in a gray 1987 Buick Regal with a Pennsylvania license plate.
Deputies, and detectives arrived on scene where they began to interview the victim and a witness at the location. The victim stated an argument began outside in the yard, and then moved inside to a garage. During the argument, the suspect pulled a black pistol from his pants pocket and racked the slide, ejecting one live round on the ground. The suspect then pointed the pistol at the victim, then fired one round in the direction of the victim’s head. The bullet struck the wall behind where the victim had been standing.
Based on the information gathered during the investigation, detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants on John Dexter Wines. While receiving the arrest warrants, it was discovered the suspect is a convicted felon, based on his criminal history.

Wines is currently on Supervised Probation through the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. Wines also has four pending charges in Iredell County for misdemeanor probation violations.
