[ARCHIVED] Convicted Felon charged again with Forgery and additional charges

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Wednesday, November 20, 2019 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in reference to someone stealing the victim’s personal checks.  Detectives were called to the scene where they gathered the necessary information for the report.

On Thursday, November 21, 2019 the owner of I-40 Express, located at 556 Sharon School Road, filed a report with Detective Scott Hall stating Matthew Dean Bailey had cashed four separate checks in the store.The store owner said the checks were returned to him from the bank, with documentation attached, indicating the checks were fraudulent. 

During the investigation Detective Hall determined, Matthew Dean Bailey had cashed the checks on four separate occasions. The checks were made out to Matthew Bailey, and each check appeared to have been signed by the victim of the stolen checks. Detectives verified with the victim the signature was forged. The four cashed checks totaled more than $1,145.00.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Matthew Dean Bailey. Bailey was arrested on Friday, December 6, 2019. He was charged with: Misdemeanor Larceny for the stolen checks, Five Counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense, and Five Counts of Felony Forgery of Endorsement. Bailey received a 30,000.00 dollar secured bond from Magistrate M. Nethken.

Criminal history: Three Counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, Misdemeanor Interfere with a Utility Meter, Three Counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Financial Cars Theft, Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods, Eight Counts of Felony Forgery of an Instrument, Felony Disseminate Obscenity, Attempted Larceny by an Employee, Felony Obtain Property by False Pretense, Misdemeanor Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
