[ARCHIVED] Assisting a motorist call ends with felony drug charges.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, November 16, 2019 Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy B. Romito was traveling Northbound on Interstate 77 when he noticed a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the interstate with the head lights on.

Deputy B.E. Romito pulled up behind the vehicle, and stopped to assist what he thought was going to be a stranded motorist. Deputy Romito walked up to the vehicle, where he noticed the driver, later identified as Randall Antonio Carr, sleeping in the driver’s seat. Deputy Romito observed marijuana and a partially smoked marijuana joint laying on the sleeping driver.

Deputy Romito woke the driver by knocking on the driver’s window. After speaking to Randall Carr about the marijuana, a search of the car was conducted. Four ounces of crack cocaine, and six grams of marijuana were located in the vehicle. 

Randall Antonio Carr was arrested on scene. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Trafficking Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Sale/Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Maintain a Vehicle for Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Carr appeared before Magistrate R. Imes who issued a 250,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges. A criminal records check indicated Carr had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. These warrants were served on him as well. His total bond amounts was raised to 253,000.00 dollars secured.

Criminal record: Misdemeanor Larceny, Four Misdemeanor Counts of Resisting a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, DWI Level 3, Misdemeanor Assault on a Female, DWI Level 2, Misdemeanor Assault on a Governmental Official, Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun, Misdemeanor Food Nutrition Fraud, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor False Imprisonment, Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering, Misdemeanor Communicating Threats, Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property, Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property, and Nine Counts of Driving While License Revoked.
