[ARCHIVED] Statesville woman charged with Felony Breaking into a Coin Operated Machine.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, September 21 at 2:42 am, a concerned citizen called 911 to report a female wearing a black tee shirt, blue jean shorts, with a pony tail was breaking into a vending machine at a business located at 635 Mocksville Highway east of Statesville.

The caller updated the information stating the female was leaving the business in a burgundy Kia SUV traveling on Bell Farm Road. Patrol Lieutenant B. Marshall was traveling east on Salisbury Highway responding to the area when he saw the Kia SUV on Salisbury Highway. The suspect vehicle turned in to the Waffle House parking lot, then immediately pulled back out onto Salisbury Highway. The vehicle pulled into the Sheetz parking lot and stopped.

Lt. B. Marshall and Deputy A. Guadalupe conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The driver of the suspect vehicle, Melissa Ann Brown, got out of the Kia. She was questioned by the deputies about where she had recently been, Brown made a statement about her involvement with the drink machine. Brown then handed a small pry bar which was used to break in the drink box to the deputies.

Deputy Guadalupe arrested Melissa Brown and took her to the Iredell County Detention Center.  Brown was charged with, Felony Breaking and Entering a coin Operated Vending Machine. Magistrate J. Hollar issued Brown a 5,000.00 dollar secured bond on the charge. Brown has a previous conviction of Breaking and Entering a Coin Operated Vending Machine. Due to this conviction this charge was a felony.

Criminal history: Three Counts of Misdemeanor Shoplifting by Concealing Goods, Two Counts of Felony Breaking or Entering, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, No Operators License, Four Counts of Misdemeanor Breaking Into a Coin Operated Machine, Two Counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, DWI Level 5.
