Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to multiple business checks which had forged, and then cashed at multiple banks in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Walkertown, North Carolina.
Detective C. Scannella of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Economic, and White Collar Crimes Unit was assigned to the case. During Detective Scannella’s investigation, several witnesses were interviewed, and a search warrants were obtained and served for bank records. Vernard Anthony Gregory was identified as the suspect in these matters
Based on the evidence gathered, Detective Scannella obtained arrest warrants for, Four Counts of Felony Identity Theft, and Four Counts of Felony Uttering a Forged Instrument. The total amount of money taken was in excess of 3,000.00 dollars.
Gregory was arrested on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 by members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He was transported to the Mecklenburg County Detention Center where he was issued a 20,000.00 dollars secured bond by Magistrate B. Harris.
