Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday August 9, Deputy K. Robbins with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad was attempting to serve Failure to Appear Warrants on Corey David Combs at 110 Ponder Lane, north of Statesville.
As Deputy Robbins was attempting to serve the warrants, Combs ran out the back door of his residence. Deputy Robbins called for the assistance of Deputy R. Clay and his canine partner “Bosco”.
Deputy R. Clay, and Bosco arrived on scene. They were able to immediately pick up Comb’s trail, and Bosco began actively tracking. Bosco led Deputy Clay and Deputy Robbins from Ponder Lane to Mitchell Trail Road, then to Bacon Road. Along the way concerned citizens asked the deputies if they were looking for a bald headed man in red underwear, which was the description of Combs, and pointed in the direction Combs ran.
Bosco tracked Combs to a camper on Cowboy Trail. Combs had broken in to the camper in an attempt to hide. Deputy Robbins and Deputy Clay could hear movement inside the camper and ordered Combs to come out of the camper which he did without incident.
Corey Combs was arrested, and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Two Counts of Failure to Appear on Communicating Threats, Two Counts of Failure to Appear on Narcotics Violations along with Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering and Misdemeanor Damage to Property. Combs appeared before Magistrate P. Tutterrow who issued Combs a $20,000 secure bond.
