Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that:
On July 17th Deputy Jody Johnson was on patrol in the area of Taylorsville Highway when he ran the North Carolina license plate on a red and silver in color Dodge Ram pickup that came back as revoked for an insurance stop. Deputy Johnson then stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Candie Griffith and the passenger as Michael Tarter. After further questioning Deputy Johnson found that the passenger Mr. Tarter was in possession of two Hydrocodone pills contained in a black and purple container. Mr. Tarter was then issued a citation for simple possession of schedule II and possession of drug paraphernalia and was released from the scene.
On 7-18-15 Lt. C.L. Stone of the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Honda on Old Mountain Rd. near Hickory Hwy. for a traffic violation. Stone spoke to the driver, Boyce Tallent, 33, of Kannapolis, and advised him of the reason he had been stopped. Stone then had Tallent exit his vehicle and walk back to his patrol car while he issued him a citation. Before having Tallent sit in the patrol car Stone searched him for illegal contraband. During the search Tallent was found to be in possession of 12 dosage units of oxycodone. Tallent was then charged with possession of schedule II and driving while license revoked.
On 7-19-15 Deputy Cameron Kerley initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation of a vehicle on Morrison Plantation Dr. in Mooresville, NC. Upon speaking with driver of the vehicle Ethan Brown Deputies smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted where 1.3 grams of marijuana were located. Ethan Brown received a citation for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
