IREDELL COUNTY SOLID WASTE OFFERS FREE MULCH AND COMPOST FOR LIMITED TIME

Statesville, N.C. (May 24, 2019)

On Tuesday, May 21st the Iredell County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a request from Iredell County Solid Waste to temporarily waive fees for mulch and compost, while making these products available to Iredell County citizens and commercial customers alike.  The Solid Waste Facility, located at 354 Twin Oaks Road in Statesville, has large stockpiles of mulch and compost that must be removed prior to construction of phase six of the landfill.

Customers can pick up these products on a first-come, first-served basis at no-charge with no quantity restrictions until stockpiles are depleted. Loading service is provided for bulk quantities only and can be loaded onto trucks and trailers. A liability waiver must be completed prior to loading.  Loading hours are Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.  Holidays may effect these hours.  Delivery is not available.

Compost is made of shredded leaves, grass clippings, and yard waste, making it a great soil amendment! Compost improves soils through the addition of organic matter which reduces the compaction of our clay soils, adds natural plant nutrients and aids drainage.  Mulch consists of shredded brush and varies in texture, color and particle size. The use of mulch reduces the need to water and use herbicide in landscape areas.
