Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, May 27, 2019 at approximately 8:18 am, Deputy B. Gudgeon of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Community Oriented Policing (COPS) Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3300 block of Charlotte Highway for a traffic violation.
Deputy Gudgeon approached the vehicle, and spoke with the two male occupants. After speaking with the men, Deputy Gudgeon gathered enough probable cause to search the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and the deputies located multiple credit cards, and credit card skimmers were found hidden under the vehicle in two magnetized containers, one near the drive shaft, and the second in a wheel well. Through further investigation the credit cards were found to have fraudulent information contained on them.
The vehicle was seized pending further investigation. Amaury Abreu Gonzalez and Michael Perez were placed under arrest and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Gonzalez and Perez were charged with five counts of Felony Possession of Counterfeit Instruments. Magistrate R. Imes issued each suspect a 50,000.00 dollars secured bond. Gonzalez was also issued a citation for the traffic violation.
After further investigation Gonzalez, and Perez were charged with 10 counts of Card Theft with a Scanning Device. Magistrate T. Thompson issued each man an additional 250,000.00 secured bond for these charges. Additional charges could be forthcoming pending further investigation.
