Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, March 15, 2019 at 8:10 pm, Deputy E. Finch responded to 127 Eastport Lane near Mooresville in reference to a suspicious person walking down the street talking to himself carrying a hatchet.

When the deputies arrived on scene they located Christopher Preston Staton standing in his neighbor’s yard behind a Ford Mustang.

After speaking with the victim and a witness it was determined Staton was attempting to steal the Ford Mustang. The witness in this incident initially had located Christopher Staton inside the Ford Mustang.

Christopher Preston Staton was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with one counts of Felony Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. Magistrate T. Thompson issued Staton a 3000.00 dollar secured bond on this charge.
