On Sunday, January 6th, 2019 at approximately 8:00 pm an incident occurred inside the Iredell County Detention Center. An inmate, Khaleel Mangum began causing a disturbance within the Holding Cell he was in.
Mangum had been moved to the holding cell to maintain security in the facility due to previous incidents involving him. Detention officers went to speak to Mangum in an attempt to determine the problem. Officers directed Mangum to step outside. When he did not follow the officer’s directions, officers attempted to escort him out of the cell however he was non-compliant.
Additional officers responded to assist, which resulted in Mangum being subdued. During the altercation two detention officers were injured. One suffered a fractured bone in his leg, the other officer sustained a thumb injury.
Khaleel Troy Mangum was charged with two counts of Felony Assault on a Person Employed at a State or Local Detention Facility. Magistrate D. Sanders issued Mangum a 125,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
Mangum was confined in the detention center for violating a domestic violence protective order. He has previously been arrested for assault by strangulation, and resisting public officer.
