Sheriff Darren Campbell stated:  On Saturday November 17, 2018 Deputy C. Little stopped a GMC Yukon at Rocky River Road at Vick Road near Mooresville, for a motor vehicle equipment violation.

The vehicle was occupied by Darrell Wellington Caldwell and Lavar Donzell Lowe both of Mooresville. Deputy Little spoke with Darrell Caldwell, who was driving the vehicle, and informed him about the equipment violation. While speaking with Caldwell, Deputy Little detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from inside of the vehicle.

After further questioning and investigation by Deputy Little, he located an open container of alcohol, and digital scales. Deputy Little then checked driving history and criminal histories on Caldwell and Donzell. He learned Lavar Donzell had two outstanding arrest warrants for child support.

Donzell was transported to Iredell County Detention Center where Magistrate P. Tutterrow issued him a bond for his total child support payment of 1,565.00 dollars. While being processed into the detention center, Donzell was found to be concealing a clear plastic bag containing 5.2 grams of cocaine. Donzell was taken before Magistrate S. Watkins and was charged with Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance inside a Prison/Jail, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Donzell was given an additional 10,000.00 dollars secured bond on these new charges.
