Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Sunday September 2, 2018 at approximately 12:17 am, Deputies C. James, M. Myers and M. Jennings were dispatched to 168 Honeysuckle Creek Loop Mooresville, in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon arriving, deputies made contact with the victim, who was at a neighbor’s home at the time. While interviewing the victim, she stated the suspect, John Marcus Lancaster became angry with her about a business matter. She went on to say, Lancaster became verbally abusive before hitting her with a closed fist several times in the head, he then began to choke her. At some point during the assault, Lancaster took the victim’s cell phone to prevent her from calling for help.
The deputies noticed clearly visible marks on the victim’s neck. The deputies went to speak with John Lancaster about the incident and informed him he was under arrest for the assault. Lancaster slammed the door on the officers and remained inside for approximately 5-10 minutes before exiting the residence and surrendering himself.
John Marcus Lancaster was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Assault by Strangulation, Misdemeanor Assault on a Female, Misdemeanor Interfere with Emergency Communications and Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer.
Due to the nature of the charges, Lancaster was given no bond and a court date of Tuesday September 4, 2018.
