Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Friday August 24, 2018, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call in reference to a burglary in process at a home located at 223 Scottish Drive, Mooresville. The caller advised her husband had a suspect detained at gun point.
Upon arriving, deputies found Justin Scott Morgan being detained by the property owners. After investigation, it was determined the property owners had come home and saw Morgan driving a truck from the rear of their home. The home owner spoke with the suspect who told him he was working on the house and had gotten a job off of Craig’s List. The home owner told Morgan, he lived at the home. The owner then noticed the suspect was wearing welding gloves. While being told to stop the truck by the home owner, Morgan continued to drive slowly at the home owner. The home owner shot once hitting the suspect’s trucks right rear tire.
Upon further investigation, it was also determined, additional items had been removed from the property earlier by Morgan and had been taken to an unknown location.
Justin Scott Morgan was subsequently arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny, Felony Safecracking, Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Possession of Burglary Tools, and Misdemeanor Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.
Justine Morgan was taken before Magistrate J. Hollar who issued Morgan a 50,000.00 dollars secured bond.
Sheriff Campbell added, “The suspect in this incident is lucky we are not investigating another outcome to this case. This should be a warning to those who want to make victims, out of our homeowners, which could be a deadly choice for would-be criminals”.
