[ARCHIVED] Armed robbery suspect arrested.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Sunday February 10, 2018, at 10:17pm, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Little Market Basket convenience store located at 3541 Taylorsville Highway in reference to an armed robbery which had just occurred.

The suspect was described as a light skinned black male wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, and a piece of cloth covering his nose and mouth carrying a long brown and black rifle.

According to a witness at the store, the suspect entered and demanded money from the register and then ran out the front door towards the back of the store on Absher Farm Loop. A witness who chased the suspect was able to describe the vehicle the suspect got into as a dark in color two door vehicle possibly an Acura.

During the chase, the witness stated the suspect dropped the firearm in the roadway, got into the passenger seat of the vehicle and drove away.  Detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. The recovered firearm used in the robbery was later identified as a Red Ryder BB gun.

After following up on numerous leads, detectives identified Quintin Latrell Abernethy as the suspect and obtained arrest warrants for him on Wednesday March 14, 2018.

Detectives and deputies had been tirelessly searching for Quintin Latrell Abernethy. Several family members along with friends were interviewed and information was received stating he was possibly in the Raleigh or Hickory areas.

During the course of the investigation detectives found other similar crimes had occurred in Statesville and in other counties.  

On Thursday April 19, 2018, Detectives were notified about a possible domestic dispute in the parking lot of the Iredell County Library across form the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives and deputies approached the male and female and quickly learned the male involved in the domestic dispute was Quintin Latrell Abernethy and also identified the vehicle used in the robbery.

Quintin Abernethy was arrested on the outstanding warrants and transported to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office where he was interviewed and processed. In addition the vehicle was searched and evidence was located believed to be connected to the robbery cases. The Statesville Police Department and other additional counties have been notified in regard to the suspect and evidence which has been recovered.

Quintin Latrell Abernethy was charged with one count of Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. He was placed under a 50,000.00 dollars secured bond my Magistrate D. Chambers.

The investigation is on-going and more charges are expected at this time.
