Sheriff Darren Campbell stated On Sunday 07/05/2015 at approximately 11:30 pm, Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Mitchell Trail in Love Valley, NC in reference to a fight in progress and a victim was seriously hurt. Upon the Deputies arrival at scene they found that a male subject had been severely injured. John Franklin Hooks was determined to be the suspect that committed the assault. Hooks was detained at that time by the Deputies. Iredell County Emergency Medical Service along with Central Volunteer Fire Department First Responders arrived on scene and provided medical treatment to the victim. The victim was then transported to Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC with serious injuries.
Detective Sergeant Gene Hayes with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene. Upon Detective Hayes’s arrival he began his investigation on what transpired at the residence. After Detective Hayes spoke with several witnesses and listened to the initial 911 call made by Hooks, he came to the conclusion that Hooks had arrived at the residence at which time he found his wife with the victim. Hooks immediately became upset and a physical altercation began. Hooks made several statements that he was trying to kill the victim for being with his wife.
At that time Detective Hayes placed Hooks under arrest and he was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Hooks was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Domestic Assault on a Female. Hooks is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center on a $50,000.00 secured bond and a No Bond for the Domestic Assault until his first appearance in court.
