Sheriff Darren Campbell stated:  On Thursday March 8, 2018 at approximately 4:15 pm Deputy M. Hicks with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team performed a traffic stop on a Hertz rental vehicle, a 2017 Kia Soul registered from the State of Tennessee for a traffic violation.

While conducting the stop Deputy Hicks came in contact with Danny Mark Bye who resides in Charleston South Carolina. While speaking with Bye, he stated he was returning to Charleston South Carolina from Detroit Michigan. As Hicks was speaking with Bye he appeared very nervous and was unable to speak clearly when asked questions. Due to the nervousness Hicks asked Bye for consent to search his vehicle and consent was granted.

Once the vehicle was search a total of 30.4 grams of heroin was located in some clothing in the front passenger seat. An additional 1.0 grams was located in Bye’s wallet. Upon completion of the search Bye was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with the following; Felony Trafficking Heroin by Transport, Felony Trafficking Heroin by Possession and Felony Maintaining a Dwelling or Vehicle for Selling Controlled Substance.

Danny Mark Bye was taken before Magistrate P. Tutterow who gave have him a $2,000,000 dollar secured bond.
