Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on October 4, 2017 Deputy David Price of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit was notified by a concerned citizen that a registered sex offender, Michael Hiott was no longer residing at 154 Shanna Lane. Deputy Price immediately began an investigation as to his whereabouts. After speaking to a family member and neighbors Deputy Price determined Hiott was not living at the residence where he was registered. Deputy Price also learned that Hiott had other warrants outstanding. Deputy Price charged Michael Hiott with Fail to Notify Change of Address.
On October 20, 2017 Michael Hiott was located and arrested on all pending charges. He was taken before magistrate Thompson and given a $10,000.00 secured bond.
Hiott was placed on the registry in 2002 after a 1998 conviction of Kidnapping and Indecent Liberties with a Child. Other convictions include, Habitual Felon, Driving while License Revoked (two counts), Possession of Firearm by Felon, Fail to Register Sex Offender (two counts), No Operator License, Assault with Deadly Weapon on Government Official, Felony Breaking and Entering (three counts), Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor, Simple Assault (two counts), Injury to Real Property, False Report to Police Station, Driving while Impaired, Fail to Heed Light and Siren, Driving after Drinking with Provisional License, and Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering. Hiott also has pending charges of; Driving while License Revoked, Obtain Property By False Pretense, Larceny Habitual Felon, and Hit and Run.
