[ARCHIVED] Suspects arrested for Failure to Register/ Fail to Report Noncompliant Sex Offender

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received information that Damion Christopher Payne, a Sex Offender from Catawba County was living in Statesville. Deputy John Adams investigated the information further and was able to determine that Mr. Payne was staying at 623 Cherry Street Statesville, with Wendy Slone Mathena, who is also a registered sex offender.

Damon Payne was arrested on September 16, 2017 and charged with Failure to Register and was given a $20,000.00 secure bond. Payne was placed on the registry in 2013 for a 2011 conviction of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. He has pending charges of; Fictitious Information to Officer, Second Degree Trespass, Assault on Law Enforcement Officer and Probation Violation out of Catawba County. Payne’s prior convictions include; Attempted Failure to Report New Address, Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Wendy Mathena arrested on October 17, 2017 and was charged with Failure to Report a Noncompliant Sex Offender, she was given a $3,500.00 secure bond.  Wendy Mathena was placed on the registry in 2011 for a 2009 conviction of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. Her prior convictions include two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Minor and two counts of Sex Offense by a Parental Role.Damion PayneWendy Mathena Wendy Mathena
