Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that on 08/27/2017 just after noon deputies responded to a report of a breaking and entering in progress to a residence at 190 Big Tree Drive. Callers to Emergency Communications gave a detailed description of the suspects and the vehicle as they left the scene driving. Deputies were able to locate the vehicle and make a traffic stop on Old Mountain Road near Celeste Estates. Upon stopping the vehicle, they encountered Patricia Hernandez and Roger Kiser. During a field interview, Hernandez admitted to breaking into the residence and removing a small safe which contained prescription medications to include oxycodone tablets. Based off Hernandez’s and other witness statements, as well as deputies finding the stolen prescription medications in the vehicle, Kiser and Hernandez were both arrested for felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, safecracking, and trafficking opiates. They were taken before a magistrate and given a first appearance court date of 08/28/2017 in Iredell County District Court. Both subjects are currently being held in the Iredell County Detention Center in lieu of a $90,000.00 secured bond.
