Sheriff Darren E. Campbell
stated: Last
week, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigators acting on
credible and reliable information intercepted packages suspected of containing
large amounts of narcotics destined for locations here in Iredell County.
Narcotics
investigators established a surveillance operation on one the residences
located at 116 Watercrest Drive in Statesville. The package was delivered and
accepted by a resident at the home. A
short time later, narcotics investigators executed a search warrant at the
residence.
The
package was located in one of the bedrooms of the home. When it was opened
investigators discovered vacuumed sealed bags containing 13 pounds of high
grade marijuana. An additional five pounds of marijuana in similar type packaging
was located under a bed. Investigators seized the marijuana along with over
9000.00 dollars in cash which was hidden in a jacket in the closet. The
marijuana has an estimated street value of approximately 163,296.00 dollars.
As
a result of this investigation, Joshua Allen Arroyo was arrested and
transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with
one Felony Count of Trafficking Marijuana and one Felony Count of Maintaining a
Vehicle/Dwelling or Place to Sell Controlled Substances. He was placed under a
30,000.00 Dollars Secured Bond.
In
a separate investigation at a different location in Iredell County, based upon
the same information, investigators conducted another surveillance operation in
an attempt to identify the recipient of another package. This container was
found to hold vacuumed sealed bags with 22 pounds of high grade marijuana. A
controlled delivery was attempted at the home. This investigation is still ongoing.
Charges stemming from this case are expected. The marijuana in this
investigation has an estimated street value of 198,032.00 dollars.
Sheriff
Campbell said “This is yet another way the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is
working to curtail the flow of illegal drugs into the county by proactively working
with package delivery services to intercept bulk narcotics deliveries from
outside this country as well as other states.
This
investigation took $361,328.00 dollars out of the hands of drug cartels as well
as drug dealers in Iredell County, which many times lead people to commit other
crimes like breaking and entering, robberies and commit other crimes to feed
their habits”.
