Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that on May 20th 2017, multiple stolen weapons were seized and eight suspects were arrested after shots were fired into three separate residences in Eastern Iredell County. Deputies responded Log Dr. where several citizens had requested assistance and stated that multiple rounds of gunfire had hit their home and that one round almost struck a small child. After arrival in the area Deputies quickly located the source of the gunfire at 185 Hickory Nut Dr., Statesville and detained eight suspects. Shortly thereafter, another residence several streets away was located that had also been struck by gunfire. During the course of the investigation Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division, Aggressive Criminal Enforcement, and also Narcotics Division assisted in the acquisition of statements and search warrants for two vehicles. A total of eleven assorted pistols, rifles and ammunition were seized along with cash and marijuana. It was also found that five of the eleven firearms seized have been reported stolen from multiple jurisdictions surrounding Iredell County and also South Carolina.
Several of the suspects arrested have prior criminal history ranging from Armed Robbery to previous shooting into occupied dwelling convictions. One of the suspects was currently wearing an ankle monitor from Mecklenburg County for his prior criminal involvement. All Eight suspects were arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where they are being held in lieu of bonds ranging from $50,000 to $105,000 secured. Their scheduled first court appearance is scheduled for May 22, 2017 in Statesville District Court.
“Sheriff Darren Campbell, said this is the kind of behavior the Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate. If people come to Iredell County thinking they can conduct themselves in this manner we will not allow it. We will use every tool we have to insure our citizens feel safe in their communities.”
