Sheriff Darren E. Campbell stated: On Wednesday March 1, 2017 at approximately 3:15 pm deputies assigned to the Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team attempted to stop a Dodge Caravan traveling North on Interstate 77 for traffic violations.
The vehicle failed to stop for blue lights and siren while speeding away from the deputies. A brief pursuit occurred and ended at the Yadkin County line. After being stopped and detained the driver, Stacey Lee Key, admitted to the deputies he had consumed an unknown amount of methamphetamine which had been in his possession.
Key was examined and observed by medical personnel while the deputies continued their investigation. It was discovered the suspect had outstanding warrants in Rowan County and a Fugitive Warrant from Virginia for drug charges.
After being medically cleared, Key was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and was charged with the following counts; Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Felony Careless and Wreckless Driving, Driving while License Revoked for DWI, Destruction of Criminal Evidence, Felony Arrest Warrant from Rowan County and is being held on a Fugitive Warrant from Virginia.
Stacey Lee Key was placed under 50,000.00 dollars secured bond. Key has a criminal history of Driving while impaired, felony and misdemeanor drug violations as well as larceny charges.
