Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that on 02-06-2017 Sgt. C.W. Bentley of the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team was working in the area of Starlight Road. when he came into contact with Mary N. Hinson, 38, of Statesville. During this time Bentley discovered that the address on Hinson’s registration card did not match the address on her driver’s license. While speaking with Hinson Bentley noticed that the passenger appeared extremely nervous and that her hands were shaking. Bentley then asked Hinson to walk back to his patrol car while he issued her a citation.

Bentley advised Hinson that he’d noticed that the passenger was extremely nervous and spoke to her about the possibility of there being any illegal contraband inside the vehicle. During this time Hinson gave consent for the vehicle to be searched. A search of Hinson’s vehicle resulted in seizing a plastic bag containing a large amount of Xanax pills and a plastic container containing a Subutex pill. Further search of the vehicle resulted in seizing multiple drug paraphernalia items including multiple plastic bags, plastic containers, and digital scales. Bentley then discovered that Hinson was in possession of a cigarette pack which contained a short plastic straw and a plastic bag containing a small amount of cocaine.

Bentley then placed Hinson under arrest and transported her to the Iredell County Jail. Hinson was taken before Magistrate J. Hollar who found probable cause for her to be charged with the following offenses: Possession With Intent to Sell or Deliver a schedule IV controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling, possession of schedule III controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
