Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on 01/04/2016, Sergeant R. Sherrill stopped Jason Wayne Upright on Elmwood Road following a traffic violation. While speaking with Upright, Sherrill discovered that his driver’s license was revoked. After further investigation, Deputes learned that there was a possibility of there being illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. A trained Sheriff’s Office narcotics K-9 was called to the scene. The K-9 indicated on Upright’s vehicle for the presence of narcotics. The vehicle was searched where cocaine along with a cocaine smoking pipe and other items of drug paraphernalia were located.
Upright was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Revoked and Driving Left of Center. Upright received a $3,500 secured bond from an Iredell County Magistrate.
