Sheriff Darren Campbell stated that on January 2nd 2017 the Iredell County Sheriff’s responded to 882 Bailey Farm Rd. in reference to a Domestic Disturbance. The caller reported that a male subject, Joshua Shane Ireland was drunk with a knife trying to kill his wife.
The disturbance occurred after the victim refused to give Ireland keys to the vehicle because he was intoxicated. Ireland began breaking items in the home and then shoved the victim. The victim grabbed the child and ran to her neighbor’s home for help. The neighbor took the victim and child to another family member’s home. The parties went back to the residence to try and retrieve some items so they could leave for the night. After returning to the victim’s home Ireland pushed the family member against the car and started busting out the car windows with the knife and threw a cinder block into the windshield. The family member, victim and child received minor injuries from the incident.
Deputy D.C. Wyatt obtained warrants on Ireland for Assault on a Female, Assault With a Deadly Weapon and Injury to Personal Property (2 counts). Deputy Wyatt located and arrested Ireland.
Ireland sustained injuries to himself while busting out the car windows and was treated at the hospital then taken to the Iredell County Jail.
Det. Sgt. Katie Harwell of the Special Victim’s Unit followed up on the case. After further investigation Det. Harwell obtained additional warrants on Ireland for another count of Assault on a Female, Habitual Misdemeanor Assault (3 counts), Child Abuse and Assault on a Child under 12. Ireland went before Judge Brown for his first appearance on January 4th 2017 and received a total bond of $55,000.00.
Ireland has prior convictions: (Felony) Habitual Misdemeanor Assault, Simple Assault, Assault Inflicting Serious Injury, Assault on a Government Official, Assault and Battery 3rd Degree, (Felony) Possession of Methamphetamine, (Felony) Possession of Marijuana, (Felony) Possession of Firearm by a Felon, Hit and Run leaving the scene, False Report of Motor Vehicle Theft, Driving While License Revoked (2 counts), DWI, Failure to Secure passenger under 16, Fictitious tag/card, Larceny of Motor Fuel (2 counts), Worthless Check from Closed Account (2 counts) and Driving after Consuming less than 21.
