Sheriff Darren Campbell stated a north Iredell man was arrested Monday night after an armed standoff with Deputies. Jeffery Glenn Daniels, 51, of 108 Silhouette Ln., Statesville was arrested and charged with several felonies as a result of the standoff. The incident started at around 7:30pm Monday evening when Deputies responded to a 911 call at Friendship Rd and Silhouette Ln. The caller told Emergency Communications that a man on Silhouette Ln. was firing a gun at people in the neighborhood.
Deputy Will Goforth was the first to arrive on scene and found the caller and other neighbors taking cover behind a garage at 108 Silhouette Ln. As soon as Deputy Goforth exited his vehicle, Jeffery Daniels, fired a shotgun in the direction of Deputy Goforth’s. Deputy Goforth took cover behind a garage with the citizens and called for further assistance. Other Deputies arrived on scene and tried to communicate with the suspect. The suspect barricaded himself in the house and refused to come out.
The Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) was activated. Negotiators tried to talk with the Daniels, but he refused to surrender. After several minutes of trying to negotiate with Mr. Daniels, Deputies on the perimeter captured him when Daniels tried to escape from the house out the back door. Daniels was taken into custody with no incident.

Detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene and learned that the incident started over a neighborhood dispute with some juveniles. Jeffery Daniels had reportedly assaulted 2 juveniles who were riding a golf cart on Silhouette Ln. Witnesses also told Detectives that Mr. Daniels had taken an infant child from a neighbor and attempted to carry the baby into his house. When a parent of one of the juveniles tried to confront Mr. Daniels, he responded by bringing a gun out of his house and firing it in the direction of the parent and other neighbors. The juveniles were treated for minor injuries and released. The infant was released unharmed.
Jeffery Daniels was charged with Assault on a Female, 1st Degree Kidnapping, Resisting Public Officer, Assault with a Firearm on a Public Official, Assault on a Child under 12, and Possess Firearm by Felon. Mr. Daniels is being held in the Iredell County Jail under a $200,000.00 secured bond.
Jeffery Daniels is a repeat offender and has multiple previous arrests for DUI, assaults, communicating threats and drugs offences. Daniels has convictions for Felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling, and Five counts of Felony Assault with Deadly Weapon on an Officer. Since 1983 Daniels has been sentenced to probation and active prison sentences multiple times. Records indicate Daniels was last on probation in 2008.
