Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On August 2nd 2016 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to 113 Cheng Dr. in reference to a subject at the home causing problems. Once deputies arrived they discovered that Kaw Yang, 35, of 144 Yang Drive, Statesville, had attempted to strangle his father and pushed his mother to the ground when she tried to help. At the time of this occurrence, Yang had an active Domestic Violence Protective Order (DVPO) against him prohibiting from being at this residence and from having contact with his father.
Sgt. Marsha Bumgarner obtained a warrant on Yang for violating the DVPO and two charges for the assault on his parents and Yang was arrested on August 9th, 2016.
The investigation was then forwarded to Det. Sgt. Katie Harwell of the Special Victims Unit for additional investigation. Det. Harwell discovered through Yang’s criminal history that he has had five prior convictions for violating a domestic violence protection order (DVPO).
A warrant was obtained for Yang for Repeat Violation of a DVPO which is a Felony Offense.
Yang was still in the Iredell County Jail at the time of the new charge. Yang’s previous bond was $21,000.00 and has now been set at $35,000.00.
Yang’s previous convictions consist of 5 DVPO violations, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Larceny, Assault and Battery, Simple Assault, Second Degree Trespass, and use of red or blue light.
Yang currently has the following pending charges: Driving While License Revoked, Simple Assault, Assault on a Female and Felony Domestic Violence Protection Order Violation.
