Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on July 29th, 2016 Deputies Weston Parks, Charles Davidson and David Golden were on a routine traffic stop in the area of 2020 Davie Ave. Deputy Charles Davidson had stopped the vehicle for careless driving, a vehicle registration violation and crossing over the center line. As Deputies continued the investigation they had asked to search Michael’s person along with his vehicle. Michael consented to this and stepped out of the vehicle. Deputy Davidson was searching Michael for weapons when Michael began to fight with Deputy Davidson.
Michael broke loose from Dep. Davidson and took off running from the deputies. The deputies gave chase on foot after Michael. Deputy Parks gave Michael continuous commands to stop running and for Michael to show his hands to the deputies.
Michael would not comply with any commands the deputies gave. Deputy Parks attempted to tase Michael but the Taser was ineffective. After the taser was attempted, Michael continued from deputies. Michael ran and jumped off a bridge on Davie Ave. in an attempt to get away from the deputies. After jumping from the bridge Michael got up and continued to run and try and escape from deputies.
Deputy Golden was able to apprehend Michael in the creek below the bridge on Davie Ave. Michael was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries where he remains under hospital care for his injuries and in custody of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael has warrants for the following charges. 1 Count of Felony Possession of Cocaine, 1 Count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 1 Count of Assault on a Government Official and 3 Counts of Resting Public Officer. Which will be served as soon as he is released from the hospitals care.
