Sheriff Darren Campbell stated The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report of embezzlement from a local business that occurred during 2013 and 2014. Detective Sgt. D.R. Getz with the Economic Crime Unit was assigned the case.
The business owners discovered their former bookkeeper was embezzling funds that she was not entitled to. The reporting party advised while he was reviewing the financial records for 2014 he noticed a discrepancy in the amount of payroll checks the bookkeeper had received. It appeared she had received too many payroll checks for the time period in question. Upon further review he discovered the bookkeeper was also paying herself vacation and holiday pay that she was not entitled to. In addition, he located some unusual activity in the 2013 records.
During the investigation, Detectives worked closely with the business to retrieve the bank and payroll records for 2013 and 2014 and determined the suspect had embezzled over $16,000.00 from the company.
Detectives obtained warrants for arrest on Annette Feimster Heaggans, 53, of 434 Chestnut Grove Road, Statesville, for five counts of embezzlement. Mrs. Heaggans was arrested on May 27, 2016 and received a $20,000.00 unsecured bond and was processed and released from the Iredell County Detention Center.
