Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On March 28, 2016 a domestic violence victim filed a report with Det. Sgt. Katie Harwell that the defendant, Jermy Carl Lackey, was violating the conditions of their domestic violence protection order (DVPO). The victim had been granted a temporary (DVPO) against Jermy Lackey the previous week on March 22, 2016. This DVPO ordered Lackey not to have any form of contact with the victim. The DVPO was a result of charges filed against Lackey on March 22, 2016. Lackey had been arrested by Deputy Carron Griffiths of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for Assault by Strangulation, Second Degree Kidnapping, Assault on a Female and Communicating Threats. Lackey was given a $20,000.00 bond and was given Pretrial Release Conditions ordering him to have no contact with the victim pending the court hearing. The victim then met with Det. Harwell on March 22, 2016 and Det. Harwell assisted the victim in getting a DVPO.
After the DVPO was served on Jermy Lackey, he began calling the victim on her cell phone and left a voice mail. Lackey then sent a text message to the victim. Det. Harwell saw the text and listened to the voicemail and proceeded to obtain a warrant on Lackey for Violation of DVPO. Det. Harwell made the magistrate aware that Lackey was in violation of his Pretrial Release Conditions as well as the DVPO. Lackey was arrested on March 28, 2016 on these charges where he received a $50,000 bond for violating the DVPO and $100,000.00 for violation of the Pretrial Release Conditions.
