Sheriff Darren Campbell stated On February 18, 2016, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 159 Overcash Road, Troutman in reference to a domestic dispute. The victim reported that she had been assaulted and pushed multiple times by her boyfriend, Herbert James Hubbard. The assaults occurred while she was holding their six month old child in her arms.
During the assault, Hubbard strangled the victim until she could not breathe. The victim struggled to get away by trying to scratch at Hubbard’s eyes while he was squeezing her throat. The victim was able to get away from the house with their child and called 911 from her vehicle.
Deputy Matthew Talbert responded to the call and placed Herbert Hubbard under arrest. Deputy Talbert charged Hubbard with Assault on a Female and Assault by Strangulation. Hubbard was initially given no bond due to the Domestic Hold. After going before a Judge he received a bond of $15,000.00.
The investigation was forwarded to Det. Sgt. Katie Harwell of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit. After further investigation, Det. Harwell obtained three additional warrants on Hubbard for Assault on a Child less than 12, Assault in the Presence of a Minor and Misdemeanor Child Abuse.
Hubbard was located on February 26, 2016, arrested on the new charges and placed under an additional bond of $10,000.
