Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Thursday February 18, 2016, Superior Court Judge Carla Archie sentenced James Franklin Barnette to a minimum of seven years in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.
This sentence was part of a plea deal reached in Superior Court and is related to Felony Probation Violations and Felony Drug Warrants James Barnette received last year, for selling prescription medications on three occasions to undercover narcotics investigators of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office from his store in Troutman.
The details of the plea are; Barnette is to serve 23 months active time, followed by another 23 months active time and then a minimum of 38 months with a maximum amount of 58 months active time for a total of seven years up to eight years and six months.
At the time of this arrest on his latest drug charges, James Franklin Barnette was already on probation for two counts of attempted trafficking of Opium or Heroin. Barnette sold prescription medication on three occasions during March and April of 2015 to Iredell County narcotics investigators. Barnette was charged with three Felony Counts of Trafficking Opiates, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance and Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance.
James Barnette has an extensive criminal history here in Iredell County.
Sheriff Campbell stated “This is the type of repeat offender that the Sheriff’s Office will continue to target, and do all we can to keep our community safe and keep those that choose this repeat criminal lifestyle incarcerated away from our communities”.
