Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On 12/27/2015, Sgt. M. Bumgarner and Deputy B. Owens was approached in the parking lot of the Iredell County Detention Facility by Kary Marie Riggs. Riggs stated to deputies that she had been held against her will and assaulted by her boyfriend, Tony Mark Stout. Riggs was visibly shaken and very scared. Riggs also stated that Tony pulled a knife on her that she described was about 12” in length and was a fixed blade. He pushed the knife into her rib cage, thus cutting her. Tony also strangled her to the point she could not breathe and hit her on both sides of her face in the temple area with closed fists. Tony also threatened to kill her several times during the day. Riggs explained to deputies that Tony had cornered her in the bedroom after getting out of the shower. It was at this time he grabbed the knife and assaulted her and threatened to kill her. He shut the bedroom door behind him and blocked it to prevent her from getting out.
Later on in the day Stout fell asleep from taking a Xanax. Kary told deputies she ran out of the house and was met by a friend from her church who gave her a ride to get her vehicle. Kary waited on other friends and then drove to the magistrate’s office. This is where she encountered deputies. Sgt. M. Bumgarner took out the above charges on Stout. He was subsequently arrested by deputies and transported to the Iredell County Detention. Stout received no bond.
