Sheriff Darren Campbell stated On October 23, 2015 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to a sexual assault. According to the initial report, the abuse was reported to have occurred at South Iredell High School in the 1970’s, and the victim was a student of Allen Sloop Lowrance, a teacher at South Iredell during that time.
Detective Sergeant Mike Benfield with the Special Victims Unit was assigned to investigate the case. Detectives executed a search warrant at 319 B Rolling Hills Road, Mooresville NC and seized several items. In addition, several witnesses were identified and interviewed. The victim disclosed new incidents of sexual abuse by Allen Sloop Lowrance that had occurred between December 2014 and October 2015. As a result of the investigation, Allen Sloop Lowrance, 65, was charged with 20 counts of Second Degree Sex Offense.
Allen Sloop Lowrance was a Special Education teacher at South Iredell High School from 1974-1977, however, none of the charges stem from the incidents during that time period. Allen Sloop Lowrance was arrested and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $50,000.00 bond.
