Sheriff Darren Campbell stated in the early morning hours of Monday September 28th, a citizen on Zurich Ln. off of Turnersburg Hwy was leaving his residence for work when he noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the roadway near his home. The citizen also noticed a motorcycle in a field just off the road. The citizen realized the motorcycle was his and it had been taken from his garage. The man called the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident. It was then that the suspicious vehicle left at a high rate of speed nearly striking the victim’s vehicle. The victim was able to obtain a license plate number from the vehicle which he later provided to Officers. Sheriff’s Deputies responded and were on scene within minutes. One of the Deputies spotted a suspicious individual wearing dark clothing walking down Turnersburg Hwy in close proximity. When a Deputy approached the individual and began talking with him, the suspect ran away from the Deputy. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was captured. The suspect was identified as Norman Marques Chambers. Mr. Chambers was arrested for Resisting Public Officer and transported to the Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives were notified and began investigating the incident. It was discovered that the victim’s garage had been broken into and the motorcycle was stolen from inside. Crime Scene Units responded and located evidence at the scene. A short time later, the Sheriff’s Office was alerted to other Breaking and Entering incidents in the vicinity where cars had been entered and items stolen. As a result of the investigation and evidence found at the crime scenes, Detectives determined Norman Marques Chambers and another individual who had left the scene in the vehicle were involved in the crimes. Detectives later identified the other suspect as Anthony Jarell Pittman.
Norman Marques Chambers, 23, of Park Dr., Statesville NC and Anthony Jarell Pittman, 21, of St. Jill Circle, Statesville were both charged with Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and Felony Larceny. Norman Marques Chambers was also wanted for an outstanding warrant for a Probation violation. Mr. Chambers was given a $10,000 secured bond. Anthony Jarell Pittman was given a $20,000 secured bond.
