Date/Time of Offense: Thursday, August 31, 2023.
Location of Incident: 119 Fort Dobbs Road, Statesville, North Carolina.
Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Thursday, August 31, 2023, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 100 block of Fort Dobbs Road, north of Statesville, in reference to a child having been shot.
When the deputies arrived on the scene thirty seconds after receiving the call, they located a neighbor of the victim performing CPR on a three-year-old child who had been shot. Deputies took over performing CPR and administering medical care to the child. It was quickly determined the child had been shot inside a car by his five-year-old brother.
Members of the Ebenezer Volunteer Fire Department and Iredell County EMS members arrived on the scene. They continued medical treatment on the child and then transported the victim to Iredell Memorial Hospital. The child was then flown to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigators and Detectives responded to the scene, conducted interviews, and collected evidence.
The victim died at Baptist Hospital from his injuries later in the evening.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released at a later date.
