Felony Assault on a Government Official - Teno

Suspect charged with Felony Assault on a Government Official.
 
This morning, Wednesday, August 9, 2023, shortly before 9:00 am, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad Deputies were at a residence on Rebekah Lane east of Troutman, attempting to serve arrest warrants on Jessie Michael Teno for; Felony Obtain Property by False Pretense, Assault on a Governmental Official, Two Counts of Common Law Uttering, Larceny and five Failure to Appear Warrants for Felony Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Obtain Property by False Pretense, and Violation of a Court Order.
 
After locating Jessie Michael Teno at the residence, a Warrant Squad Deputy announced his presence. The suspect, armed with a crowbar, rushed toward the deputy. The suspect resisted the deputy while an arrest was attempted. During the struggle with the deputy, the suspect was shot. Even after being shot, the suspect continued to fight with the deputy. The suspect was finally taken into custody.
 
The suspect was treated by deputies, who immediately administered medical care to the suspect while EMS was called to the scene.
 
The area was secured by additional deputies who responded to assist. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) was requested to respond to the scene to investigate the shooting. It is standard practice for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office to call the NCSBI when a deputy-involved shooting occurs.
 
The suspect, Jessie Michael Teno, was treated at a medical facility and released. He was then taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Assault on a Governmental Official, Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer, and Misdemeanor Damage to Property, as well as being served with all of the outstanding warrants. 
 
Magistrates Russell and Nethken issued a 309,000.00 total dollar secured bond on these charges.
 
The deputy involved was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. He was then placed on Administrative Leave, which is standard practice for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
