NEWS RELEASE

Today, Thursday, April 6, 2023, Iredell County Sheriff’s School Resource Officer Mark Calabrese was awarded the Farm Bureau Deputy of the Month Award live on WAME Radio.

Deputy Calabrese started his career at the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in 2022 and works as an SRO at Lake Norman High School alongside Deputy Kanupp and Canine Laker. Calabrese communicates well with the kids at the school and taken lead on the CyberSwat peer-to-peer program. Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is the first law enforcement agency in North Carolina to implement this program. CyberSWAT is intended to educate the youth about online safety and help create a safe environment to have conversations about bullying, online predators, and other online risk.

Deputy Calabrese has exceeded the expectations for this program, and we are excited to see it continue to grow. The next step for the CyberSWAT program is for the student leaders to go to the Middle and Elementary schools to bring the same awareness.
