[ARCHIVED] Failure to notify as on line identifier as sex offender

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On August 31, 2015, Deputy D. Price of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received information that registered sex offender Timothy Easterling was maintaining a Facebook profile under a false name. North Carolina law requires registered sex offenders to register any online identifiers they use or intend to use. An “online identifier” includes an electronic mail address, an instant message screen name, a user ID, or a chat or other Internet communication name.

Deputy Price investigated the incident and discovered Timothy Easterling did in fact have a Facebook page that was listed under the name “James Timothy”. Easterling had not registered that online identifier with the Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Price charged Easterling with one count of Failing to Notify Change of Online Identifier. He was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 bond.
