Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, November 21, 2022, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 77 south near mile marker 59 on a passenger vehicle displaying a Georgia license plate.
When Deputies approached the vehicle a strong odor of marijuana was detected. The driver of the vehicle, Joseph Jamar Olley, admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. The ICE Team conducted a search of the vehicle and during the course of the search, two handguns were discovered in the spare tire area in the trunk. Olley told Deputies that he was traveling from Syracuse, New York to Atlanta, Georgia, and had purchased the two stolen handguns along the way.
The first handgun was a Taurus 9mm that was reported stolen out of Cherokee County, Georgia. The second handgun was a Kel-Tec 22 equipped with a silencer that was reported stolen from a UPS Shipping Facility and is currently being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Joseph Jamar Olley was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with Three Counts of Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felony Manufacture or Possess a Weapon of Mass Death or Destruction, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Olley was then brought before Magistrate M. Nethkan and was issued a 500,000.00 dollars secured bond on those charges.
